Obituary for Barney James Stallworth
Quincy, FL--Barney James Stallworth died at his home on May 13, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born in Calvert, AL,on December 14, 1933, to William Cater and Ida Mae (Young) Stallworth. His family often relocated due to his father’s profession as a bridge-builder. Barney considered Liberty County as home. He graduated from Liberty County High School in 1952 and enlisted in the Navy. He is a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

After he returned to the United States, he worked as a manager at the Royal Burger on Tennessee St. In 1960 through 1966; Barney served with the City of Tallahassee Police Department. He then joined the Florida Highway Patrol. He was honored as the Trooper of the Year for 1986. He started the FHP Drug Interdiction Program. He was appointed as Traffic Homicide Investigator. His career included numerous arrests for felony and misdemeanor offenses. Due to his drug busts, he was given the nickname “The Nose.” He retired in 1987. While working with the FHP, Barney served twelve years in the United States Coast Guard Reserve.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Zandra Stallworth and Derry Brown Johnson, brothers William Stallworth and Joe Brown, a brother-in-law, Roy Kellam, and Elizabeth Stallworth, the mother of his three children.

Barney is survived by his loving wife, Joan C (Kilpatrick) Stallworth. His son, Mike Stallworth (fiancé Tracy), daughter Terry Lynn (Stallworth) McCulley (Bill), son Randy Stallworth (Becki), and son Shannon Brown. His sisters Margaret Kellam, and Judy Stallworth. His stepchildren, Dr. Troy Youngblood (Mary Cecelia), Leslie Jean (Youngblood) Agerton (Josh). His grandchildren, Wayne McCully, Patrick McCully (Jen), Brendan Stallworth, Sarah Stallworth, Anna Stallworth, and John Dale Stallworth. Step-grandchildren, May Beth Youngblood, Anne Youngblood, George Youngblood, Benjamin Agerton, Liza Agerton, Grace Agerton, McCayla (Phinney) Labrador (Jake), and Chip Phinney (Kayla). Five great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021, at 1:00 PM at the National Cemetery, Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Veteran’s Honor Flight or Big Bend Hospice of Gadsden and Liberty Counties. Reception to follow at First Presbyterian Church, Quincy, FL.
