Archibald Walter Watson, Jr., 90, of Gretna, Florida went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018. Survivors include his sister Harriet Melvin of Aiken, SC; three sons and daughters-in law: Archie and Robin Watson, David and Janice Watson, Karen Watson, all of Quincy, and Brent Watson of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Kevin Faulkner of Myakka City, FL, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he loved very much.

Walter was born on January 6, 1928 in Gretna, Florida and lived his entire life in the Watson family home on Church Street. He played football and graduated from Quincy High School in 1945. Walter was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Quincy, had previously served as Elder at the Gretna Presbyterian Church, and served for many years as a Gideon in the Lake Talquin Gideon Camp. He was a charter member of the Gretna City Council. Walter was a farmer and spent all of his life working in agriculture. He owned and operated a large shade tobacco farm in Gretna for many years and then later worked at the University of FL IFAS Experiment Station in Quincy. He was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed watching all types of sports on TV. However, nothing was more important to him than his time spent at church and with family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Willie Watson, his parents Archibald Walter Watson, Sr. and Marguerite Humphrey Watson; his sisters Sarah Margaret Johnson, Janice Elizabeth Cantey, Hazel Virginia Suber, Marian Esther Fletcher, and Martha Carol Smith; his son, Sterling Watson; and his grandchildren Michael Guilford and Kalen Watson.

Visitation will be in the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy Fellowship Hall at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy. Interment will immediately follow at the Sunny Dell Cemetery in Gretna. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be given to the local Big Bed Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL. 32308.

Charles McClellan Funeral Home, 15 S. Jackson St., Quincy, FL, 850-627-7677, is in charge of arrangements.
