Obituary for Nora Collins Larsen
Nora Collins Larsen, 100, of Quincy, Florida, passed away on September 9, 2017. She was a resident of Riverchase Rehabilitation and Nursing Home at the time of her death.
Nora was born May 20, 1917, in Virginia to Vesta and Ed Collins. She was raised in Kentucky and Palatka, FL as a young girl. In Palatka she met and married a baseball pitcher, Glenn "Lefty" Larsen, in July, 1934. They married and had a family of five girls and one boy. The family moved to Marianna, Blountstown, and in 1949 settled in Quincy where Lefty was in the building supply business.
Nora was busy raising her family with the help of her mother, who resided with them. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Quincy, and the Home Demonstration Club. Shortly before Lefty's death in 1971, she bought Quincy Childcare Center, which she had until her retirement in the 1980's. Her love and devotion of caring for children continued at her home for several more years.
Nora is survived by three daughters, Ione Williamson of Quincy, Glenda Harrod of Tallahassee, and Audrey Engstrom of Baltimore, MD, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three children, Theresa Hirt, Vesta Teter, and Glenn Larsen, Jr., as well as her parents and many other relatives and dear friends.
The funeral service will be at Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at First Presbyterian Church, 306 N. Madison St., Quincy, FL. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time, in the Parlor of the church. A private family burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Larsen's honor to Christ Town Ministries, 2121 W. Jefferson St., Quincy, FL., 32351, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
